History of Artefact This kind of outfit would be made by a male tailor. A special machine is used to make them. It would be worn on special occasions – like Sundays. It’s a traditional garment in West Africa – ‘most clothes in West Africa are fairly interchangeable.’

Special Memories ‘It’s one of those things that you buy when you need something to wear. You wouldn’t find one of these on sale in Portsmouth. It was bought from Spittlefield’s market in London.’
