| History of Artefact |
It was found during the restoration of the building. From the Civil war – between Gosport and Portsmouth (Roundheads and Cavaliers) – the firing took place across the harbour and Portsmouth was besieged. It was the only time that Southsea castle was attacked. The tower at the Cathedral was used as a look-out so it became a target for fire. |
