History of Artefact	‘My dad was a Portsmouth man. He worked in the chemical works in Stamshaw. My mother was from Seven Oakes in Kent from 1910-15, she was a cook.’ Father / grandfather not in photograph – this could mean that he had died. Historian - ‘Someone in the family could have got the photograph re-printed. Pinafores were worn by children until they left school. It was a rite of passage to stop wearing the pinafore. Girls used to wear their hair down. When children were becoming young adults they would start to wear ankle-length dresses and their hair would be pinned up.’
